Violin Sonata No. 9 'Kreutzer Sonata' arr. for violin and string orchestra

Leoš Janácek

String Quartet No. 1 'Kreutzer Sonata' arr. for string orchestra

Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata has been a rich source of inspiration for many other works of art. As part of our year-long celebration of the composer's 250th anniversary, we delve deeper into this fiercely original work and pair it together with Janáček’s String Quartet of the same name and Leo Tolstoy's novella which in turn was the impetus for the Quartet. Praised for its 'winning combination of dramatic narrative and closely allied music', this production captures the tale's dramatic urgency and emotional extremes - both musical and literary.

This evening, charismatic Teodor Janson joins the artistic director Terje Tønnesen and the orchestra to lead the musical celebrations that bring the Beethoven Festival Oslo 2020 to a spectacular close.
